Obstacles

Man made barriers in the Eden prevent the migration of salmon, trout, lamprey and eels to upstream spawning grounds.

There are still 8 major barriers and several smaller ones in the Eden Catchment.

The Eden Rivers Trust is involved in several projects installing fish passes in man made barriers and the Environment Agency have installed 5 major fish passes, providing access to 60,000 square metres of previously inaccessible spawning ground.
