Eden community tree nursery regular work parties

Date: Every Tuesday , 1 pm - 4 pm | Every Friday 10 am - 1 pm | Eden community tree nursery, central Penrith

Come along and help grow our  Eden community tree nursery!

There’s lots to do to get the site ready to be a sustainable tree nursery, so if you’re up for a spot of painting, planting, building, cleaning, chopping, tidying or digging then we’d love to see you!
Volunteering at our community tree nursery is suitable for everyone – you don’t need to have any previous experience. There are always plenty of jobs available at all levels – from absolute beginners upwards, and help is always on hand to support you!

There are always a variety of tasks at the tree nursery and at this time of year, it’s all about getting seeds prepped and bedded in safely to start their long journey into the world of giants. It might be a bit messy sometimes but it’s also very satisfying to set out the trays and pots for their winter slumber.

There will however always be other jobs to do alongside this so don’t be put off if you think that isn’t the job for you.

Tree Nursery volunteer work parties are held every week:

Tuesday afternoons, 1 pm – 4 pm

Friday mornings, 10 am – 1 pm

Changes to the normal schedule

Friday 02 May: No tree nursery session.

Friday 24 May: No tree nursery session.

** Please check before you come out to make sure the session is running as there are times when we have to alter this schedule at very short notice **

How to take part:

1. Let us know in advance that you’re planning to attend:

  • Send us an email at volunteers@edenrt.org,  or
  • call Jenni Payne (Volunteer Coordinator) on 01768 866788

before the work party to let us know that you intend to come along so that we can confirm the meeting place and time and let you know if plans change or it is cancelled (for instance plans/venue may change if the weather forecast is bad!) and ensure we have the correct tools and equipment for everyone,

We just need your name and contact details (email/tel number). Please let us know if you have any additional needs (e.g. mobility) so that we can make adjustments to help you make the most of the day and if you’re planning to come along for a couple of hours or will stay all day.

2. Wear/bring:

Warm clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy in, sturdy shoes or wellies (when it’s muddy) and waterproofs. We can provide gloves, but if you prefer to use your own gardening gloves – please bring them along. Please let us know if you need waterproofs – we’ll see what we can do.

Please be aware that currently there is not much shelter and there are no facilities at the site.
