Date: Sunday 09 June | 11 am - 3 pm | Engine Lonning, Carlisle

A man wearing a costume from Ancient Rome, stands holding an upright spear in his right hand.

Discover and enjoy the nature and history on your doorstep at Engine Lonning, your wild, green space in the heart of Carlisle.

Drop-in between 11 am and 3 pm for FREE activities, including:

Wild, wonderful woods Nature Detectives trail,

Travel back in time from railways to Romans. Handle Roman artifacts and meet a real-life Roman! Our friends from Carlisle Waverley Viaduct Trust will be on hand to share the fascinating stories of the railway yard that was once here.

Wild Play with Stomping Ground – activities and games (find them near the wavy metal bench),

‘Bash the Balsam!’ Have fun, let off steam and do your bit for nature! Join Jenni, our Volunteer Coordinator and some of our ERT volunteers to help us clear Engine Lonning of Himalayan balsam. This invasive non-native species stops native plants from growing and contributes to the erosion of riverbanks. Never bashed balsam before? Don’t worry, we’ll show you how and it’s really easy!

Everyone welcome. (U18s must be accompanied by an adult)

No parking at/near the site. Please walk or use public transport.

Please note, there aren’t any toilet facilities at Engine Lonning.

STOP PRESS!

Last year, you told us that Engine Lonning needed some TLC – and The National Lottery Heritage Fund agreed!

With their support, we can all work together and make it a better place for people to enjoy and wildlife to thrive. Come along to hear about what’s planned as part of the Access to Eden: Breaking barriers, building bridges project and how you can get involved!
